Classy That's Voiceover 2012 Travels To Chicago
Aug. 25 With Contests, Training, Networking & Fun

July 30, 2012

(VOXtra) - The classy, star-studded That's Voice Over show travels to Chicago's Harris Theater (205 E. Randolph Drive) on Saturday, Aug. 25, bringing top industry professionals to the stage in educational sessions, plus an elegant reception, Speed Dating one-on-one meetings with agents, and a live Audition Spotlight contest that will net winners big prizes - including:
  • an actual, paid job to provide voice over announcing for an on-air TV promo or PSA for NBC 5 Chicago.
  • a private interview and audition with voice over agent Joan Sparks of Stewart Talent Agency/Chicago, with consideration given for possible representation, and
  • a brand new Neumann TLM 102 microphone.
It's the third annual presentation of TVO, produced by Push Creative CEO Rudy Gaskins and top voice talent / author / trainer Joan Baker. And as in previous year events in New York and Los Angeles, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

LeeAnn Trotter, entertainment reporter for NBC, is co-hosting the Chicago event with Baker, who is also author of the best-selling Secrets of Voiceover Success book.

GIVE AND RECEIVE

"As the old saying goes, 'Give and you shall receive,'" says Gaskins (pictured, with wife Joan Baker).

"From our contributions to the Alzheimer's Association to our maniacal focus on helping people generate voice over careers, we have seen That's Voiceover take on a life of its own.

"Everyone wants to be involved in something that's authentic and inspired and far-reaching," he adds. "The surprise continues to be the glowing responses from those who walk in hungry for insight and walk out filled with new possibilities."

Baker adds that the Chicago venue has "been an incredible journey - planning and collaborating with their top agents, casting directors, voice talents and producers.

"They have their own exciting and unique way of doing business, and together we're realizing the broader scope of the many things we can do together," she says.

DOORS OPEN AT 10:30

The Harris Theater doors open at 10:30, and the day begins with a Meet & Greet from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by Pat Fraley teaching Narration Techniques.

The afternoon features more sessions, receptions, a Don LaFontaine tribute, networking and contests. And the Main Event starts at 6:15 - on-stage discussions and presentations - followed by an elegant cocktail and networking reception.

The next stop for That's Voiceover may be a global stage.

"This is our third year for what has become a national road show, with plans for the U.K. and Australia," says Gaskins.

"The global thinking makes perfect sense because voice over work, in its largest sense, has fewer and fewer regional boundaries," he explains. "Having multiple agents and opportunities is the primary way by which the most successful voice actors will achieve their ultimate success."

No mention of the SAG-AFTRA deal? There was a special discount code last year. Is that still happening?
