Audiobook Contest Seeks New Narrator
'Plucked Out Of Book-Reading Obscurity'
May 22, 2009
Scott Brick, audiobook narrator supreme, is celebrating his 10th anniversary in this biz by hatching the Share The Experience contest, which invites people who have never been compensated for narrating an audiobook to compete for a grand prize of personal training from Brick, and voicing audiobook projects."The winner will be plucked out of book-reading obscurity and dropped into the world of audiobook employment," says Brick, who "did my very first audiobook gig back on June 10, 1999." Since then, he's recorded more than 400 titles and won scores of awards.
June 10 is the official opening of the contest.
"Put together a demo - a recording of you reading one of your favorite books, no longer than three minutes - and email it to me in mp3 format," says Brick.
Five runner-up winners will receive personal instruction from voice star and producer Pat Fraley.
The grand prize winner will receive personal in-studio instruction from Brick, plus employment on actual audiobook projects.
Attendees of the APA's annual conference (APAC) on May 28 in New York have an additional opportunity: early in-person auditions with attending judges.
