Mingle With Audiobook Superstars At Audies
Gala May 29 in NYC – At Narrator Track, Too
May 13, 2009

Actor Tony Roberts (pictured) will host the 14th Annual Audies Awards Gala, May 29 in New York City.

Tickets are still available for the black-tie-optional affair at the New York Historical Society in Central Park, which will honor the best in audiobook and spoken word entertainment. It’s the perfect venue to meet and mingle with the superstars of audiobook narration.

Sponsored by the Audio Publishers Association (APA), the Audies will bestow awards this year in more than 30 categories, including Best Solo Narration for both male and female talent.

A second meet-learn-and-mingle opportunity is at the APA’s annual Audio Publishers Conference (APAC), May 28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

Held in conjunction with Book Expo America (BEA), this premier event of the audiobook industry is designed to meet the needs of a variety of professionals, and includes a full-day Narrator’s Track.

AUDIES GALA

“The Audies is the only awards program in the U.S. entirely devoted to recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment,” notes APA spokesperson Kaitlin Friedmann.

Check these earlier VoiceOverXtra news items for the complete list of award nominees, and finalists for the Audiobook of the Year designation.

“A sumptuous cocktail reception with drinks and hors d’oeuvres will kick off the night’s festivities, and a champagne toast and dessert will follow the awards ceremony,” says the APA. In previous years, the Gala featured a sit-down dinner.

“This will allow for even more opportunity to mingle and network with friends and colleagues, and enjoy the special surroundings,” the APA explains. Indeed – attendees will have the opportunity to tour the New York Historical Society archives.

Tickets to the Gala are available at $400 for APA members, and $450 for non-members. To order, please visit www.audiopub.org/audiesgalatickets_landing.asp.

APAC CONFERENCE

A day earlier, on May 28, the APAC is “the premier event in the audiobook industry, designed to address industry trends and provide for networking opportunities,” says the APA’s Friedmann.

The full-day Narrator’s Track features concurrent sessions and a panel discussion covering:
  • Employment and Visibility
  • How to Get Hired for the Job
  • Elephant in the Room (marketing do’s and don’ts)
  • Productivity vs. Cost
  • Membership Meeting and Cocktail Reception
Conference registration is $325 for APA members and $425 for non-members. To view the agenda and register for the conference, visit www.audiopub.org/events-apac.asp
