VOICE ARTS® AWARDS
The 2020 Voice Arts® Awards Gala Will Stream
Live - And Free - From NYC Stage On December 20
December 9, 2020

"We hope that you'll put on your finest black tie sweatpants and join us for the star-studded event, live in your living room!" - Rudy Gaskins, SOVAS President and CEO

(VOXtra) - The annual Gala and ceremony of the Voice Arts® Awards competition continues its tradition of elegance, drama and excitement - but in this year of COVID challenges, the venue announcing and celebrating winners will stream live from the New World Stages in New York City.

And your online seat is free.

What's billed as "voice acting's biggest night" will start at 6pm Eastern on Sunday, December 20 (rescheduled from December 6). There will be no live audience.

Presented by the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences (SOVAS), the Voice Arts® Awards is a global competition celebrating "some of the world's most brilliant media where the voice is a key creative element," notes SOVAS.

Indeed: Nominees in 90 categories - from Animation to Websites, with Audiobooks, Commercials, Narration, Radio, Promos, Toys and more in between - include not only voice actors, but also creative directors, producers, marketing execs, copywriters, audio engineers, casting director and spoken word artists.

"In this, our seventh year of the Voice Arts® Awards, the voice over community stepped up with nearly a thousand entries, and they stepped up as committed judges to ensure the work was vetted at the highest level," notes SOVAS President and CEO, Rudy Gaskins.

And once again stepping (or more likely, dancing) onto the Gala stage will be vivacious host, voice talent, coach and SOVAS board member Joan Baker (pictured from earlier event).

Keeping with tradition in the Gala's awards ceremony, winners and nominees will be announced by name, and the winning works will be shown for most categories.

Also traditional are SOVAS's special awards:

Tom Kenny - the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants - will present the Voice Arts Icon Award to actor / voice actor / writer Mark Hamill (pictured left) - Luke Skywalker!

And billionaire investor / philanthropist Glenn Hutchins - after whom the Hutchins Center for African & African America Research is named - will present the Muhammad Ali Voice of Humanity Honor to Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. (pictured, right), host of the popular PBS series, Finding Your Roots.

ENTERTAINING, TOO ...

The Gala is also traditionally entertaining!

Featured this year is a performance by Lana Gordon, star of Broadway's Chicago.

Donations to SOVAS are also appreciated.

Note: SOVAS has also created the SOVAS Relief Fund for Voice Actors, to help voice actors who are struggling in this challenging year.
