NAVA’s 2025 SURVEY
Voice Actors Reveal Their Annual Income
& Much More In ‘The State Of Voiceover 2025’
April 10, 2025

(VOXtra) – We’re always advised to not compare our voice over skills or careers to colleagues because we’re unique individuals, not copycats reliant on mimicking others.

But. Would you like a peek at where you might be fitting in the scheme of things? For instance: income, types of jobs done, union status, AI use, and so on?

The National Association of Voice Actors’ (NAVA) The State of Voiceover in 2025 report was recently released and affords such a picture.

“The data collected was enlightening,” NAVA says of this annual survey. “We hope everyone who views these results will come away with a better understanding of the voice over industry as a whole.”

The survey was conducted online from February 5 -21, 2025, with invitations to participate issued to NAVA’s contact list of about 3,000 voice actors, plus numerous VO social media groups. VoiceOverXtra also sent the invitation to its 5,000+ subscribers.

NAVA received 1,305 responses and says that no identifying information about the respondents was collected. The association thanks all voice actors who participated, with special appreciation to David Cui Cui and Jenn Wong for conducting the survey.

Now, some report highlights …

WHAT VOICE ACTORS EARN

Are you aiming for the top? 15% of respondents earned $100,000 or more from voice over work in 2024 – with 14 of those reporting income of $500,000 or more.

And when viewing the NAVA 2024 graph below, bear in mind that a trend was for people to jump to higher income categories from the previous year.

WHO ARE THE RESPONDENTS?

While the internet lets voice actors audition and perform from anywhere, many respondents live in the traditional studio city hubs. Los Angeles is by far the top city, as the home to 262 respondents, followed by New York City, where 145 work in voice over.

UNION AND AGENTS

Voice over income in 2024 came overwhelmingly from non-union work for respondents. Also:

  • 54% reported all income being non-union, while 13% said all income was from union work. The remainer was a mix of union and non-union.
  • 63% reported having agency representation, with 44% of those saying they’re represented by more than one agent.
  • 19% are SAG-AFTRA members, while 57% are non-union, and 12% are Fi-Core (a fee-paying non-member).

USING AI – OR WANT TO?

While only 13% of respondents have “willingly agreed” to have a synthetic version of their voice created by a third party, fully 60% said they are open to the idea. Most said they’d do this for passive income.

On the darker side of AI, 7% reported that a synthetic version of their voice had been created without their permission.
