BENEFITS ALZHEIMER'S AWARENESS
'VOICES REMEMBER' - An Intimate Musical Cabaret
May 11 In A Penthouse On Central Park South

April 24, 2015

(VOXtra) - You've heard voices you'll never forget - but not like this, or in such a memorable setting.

On May 11, Broadway stars and top voice actors will entertain at VOICES REMEMBER, a unique fundraiser overlooking New York's Central Park, benefiting Positive Approach To Care - an organization that helps people in the U.S. and Canada learn to cope with changing needs due to the effects of dementia.

Presented by the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences (SOVAS), the event also honors legendary restauranteur, model and TV personality B. Smith and her husband Dan Gasby, who last year publicly announced their personal struggle with Smith's onset of Alzheimer's. They recently testified about this at the Senate Committee on Aging in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Max Gomez, WCBS medical correspondent will be a guest speaker.

OVERLOOKING CENTRAL PARK

And the venue? A penthouse overlooking New York City's Central Park. A reception starts at 7 p.m. followed at 8 by an unforgettable show.

"This fundraiser is designed around the opportunity to enjoy Broadway singers performing in the intimate setting of a private home," explains SOVAS CEO Rudy Gaskins.

"Each singer will be introduced by a voice actor, who will first introduce himself or herself via some signature commercial or animated character work they've done. And of course, many of the Broadway singers - like Keith David - are also seasoned VO pros."

The songs and spoken word entertainment includes a guest performance by The Broadway Boys, plus Tony-nominated Keith David; star of Mary Poppins and Les Miserables, Megan Osterhaus; Motown's N'Kenge; and international opera star John Davies; songstress and pianist Karen Jacobsen.

The event will also feature the gourmet delights of master celebrity chef Marcus Samuelson (Red Rooster of Harlem), and will be co-hosted by Julie James, host of the "On Broadway" radio show on SiriusXM, and acclaimed voice actor Joan Baker.

The well-known voice actors performing include Pat Fraley, Sharon Martin, Dion Graham and Kristen Krohn.

COMMITMENT TO ALZHEIMER AWARENESS

Emmy-winning producer Gaskins and his wife Joan Baker have long been committed to causes benefiting Alzheimer's awareness and research.

"Joan lost her father to the disease and has been supporting the Alzheimer's Association for 10 years since," says Gaskins. "Aside from producing fundraisers, Joan's book, Secrets of Voiceover Success, donates 100 percent of the royalties to the Alzheimer's Association."

It's estimated that over 5 million Americans are living today with Alzheimer's, including 200,000 under the age of 65. And by the year 2050, up to 16 million are predicted to be afflicted.

"Family members caring for a spouse, parent or other loved one with dementia are at high risk for depression and anxiety," Gaskin adds, "making it difficult or impossible, in some cases, to care for the person affected by dementia."

I have a high regard for Joan Baker. Years ago, I saw her host a voiceover panel through the Learning Annex with Don LaFontaine. She's beautiful. I’ve have been a devoted fan ever since. This woman's energy is to be reckoned with in big ways. VOICES REMEMBER is a unique way to use voice actors and bring together other VOICES for such a great cause. Really has not been done before till Joan got on the scene. She pretty much brings honor to what we do and makes a mark not a scar in this business!!
