YOUR HEALTH
Stress Less With These Relief Tips
For Performing, Your Mind - And Life

By Moneen Daley
Voice Over Talent, Coach & Audio Producer

Creating systems for everything and knowing your very own nervous system is a time- and stress-saving lesson learned over and over. Especially so for me this past year, after moving home and studio twice.

We had major constructions delays, family emergencies and a boatload of “Gee, I didn’t expect that.”

So. Here are some of my systems to create/rely on when SNAFU’s occur. Oh, and they will occur!

PREPARATION-BASED STRESS RELIEVERS

Rehearse! Make strong choices in preparing your script. If the content is sight unseen, rely on your technique to make instant universal choices.

Example: Ask yourself: Who am I? What am I fighting for?

Warm-Up! Sing to warm up your voice and stimulate articulation. Dance to warm up your body and shake off nervous energy.

Breathe deeply to calm and slow your thoughts and speech before you perform.

Performer To Go Bag! Always have a dedicated To Go Bag ready for when you have to hit the road for a gig, audition or appearance. You’ll want to have a
variety of preventative items to ease your stress level.

Examples: Water, green apple slices, protein bar, extra layer of clothing, toothbrush/toothpaste, Tide Stain Remover Pen, any health/beauty item you
need for freshening up.

MENTAL STRESS RELIEVERS

Meditation. Even 1 or 2 minutes of silence and observing your breath can re-energize. There is no right or wrong way. Sitting alone anywhere in nature works well.

Visualization. Picture in your mind, the precise outcome of your upcoming event. Your mind believes what you tell it. Keep it positive!

Journaling. Lighten your mental burden by getting it out on paper. Fears. Goals. Successes. Wins!

LIFESTYLE CHOICES FOR LONG-TERM STRESS RELIEF

Coaching or Mentorship. There’s nothing like learning from someone who has been there before. Ask for referrals, and interview a coach as you would
any professional. Trust your instincts.

Community! Sharing worries with like-minded friends and colleagues can lighten the mental load. But be careful of time wasted complaining sessions. Seek
proactive talent who will support you.

Eat, Hydrate, Rest and Recreate Well! A balanced diet supports mental clarity and physical endurance. Quality sleep enhances mood and cognitive function. Having fun away from your field can recharge your creativity!

Hope this was a helpful reminder to you.

Stay Blessed and Unstressed!
