Here Are The 2014 Audie® Award
Finalists, Plus New Erotica Category

(VOXtra) - The Audio Publishers Association (APA) has announced finalists for its 2014 Audie Awards® competition in 29 categories - including the new category of Erotica, and nominees for the best female and male solo narrations.

In number of nominations, prolific narrator Katherine Kellgren leads with seven, including a nomination for Solo Narration-Female.

Finalists for two special awards, Distinguished Achievement in Production and Audiobook of the Year will be announced in April. And all winners will be announced at the Audies Gala on May 29, 2014, at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York.

"Excitement for the 2014 Audies abounds as we congratulate the many finalists on distinguishing themselves this year,” says Michele Cobb, APA president. "Our success and growth as an industry continues to give rise to excellence in production, and we look forward to celebrating together.”

SHADES OF EROTICA

This year there will be an additional category: Erotica. At last year’s Audies Gala, the APA presented a Special Sales Achievement Award to Fifty Shades of Grey (and its publisher, Random House Audio).

Janet Benson of Audio Editions, who is 2014 Audies Competition Chair explains,

"The phenomenal success of that title, and the way it brought new listeners to hear the pleasures of an audiobook alerted us to the need for a new Audies category, so we’ve tested it this year with ‘Judges’ Award: Erotica.”

She notes that APA has similarly introduced categories in politics, language learning, and most recently, Paranormal.

"The first-round judges were enthusiastic about the many quality Erotica submissions that came in, so we anticipate it will now be a regular feature of the Audie Awards,” says Benson.

WHO MADE IT THIS YEAR?

Sponsored by the APA, the Audies is the premier awards program in the United States recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment. Through this competition, publishers are able to enter titles in various categories for recognition of achievement.

One winner is chosen in each category. Here are the finalists to congratulate in this year’s competition:
