Three Questions (Actually, More)
To Three VO Industry Greats
May 16, 2008

Say you had a chance to sit down for a chat with Dan O'Day (pictured), Dick Orkin and Pat Fraley. Very informally, of course. What would you ask?

Well, that chat session has already taken place. But you can listen in, or read a synopsis of it, through the links below.

Titled "Ask Three Questions," the chat was a teleseminar hosted by O'Day as a promotion for his 13th annual International Radio Creative and Production Summit, to be held in at the Airport Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, Aug. 8-9. (See VoiceOverXtra's Calendar listing for details.)

Limited to 100 attendees, the event draws rave reviews. Orkin and Fraley are on this year's program.

WHO'S WHO

The teleseminar's format was to field and answer questions about effective radio advertising copy and voice-overs.

O'Day is known as the commercial copywriting guru. He's a consultant to radio stations, advertising agencies and businesses, and is a frequent presenter of seminars and keynote speeches at industry conventions.

Orkin is the multiple winner of major radio advertising awards, and through his Famous Radio Ranch, Orkin creates, writes, casts and produces radio commercials of all kinds. But humor is a specialty. Remember "Chickenman" and the "Toothfairy" series? Yup. That's him.

Fraley is a multiple Audie Award winner and nominee, voice-over teacher, creator of more than 4,000 character voices, and recipient of this year's Voicey's Lifetime Achievement Award.

THE LINKS ...

Sit in on the lively discussion in two ways:

Hear It. The session was recorded, of course, and Julie Williams, voice actor and teacher, has received permission to offer it as an MP3 download from her Voice-Overs.com web site. The specific link is http://voice-overs.com/Ask3Questions.mp3.

"It's a 70MB file," notes Williams, who was on the original call. "But its worth the download time."

Read It. Voice actor Bob Souer was also on the original call, and busily typed the Q&A's as a live session on his popular The Voiceover Boblog. Minute by minute, he summarizes the questions and answers.
