2013 AUDIES FINALISTS
Scores Of Audiobook Narrators Named
As Finalists In 2013 Audie Awards Competition
February 22, 2013

(VOXtra) - The 2013 Audie Awards competition finalists have been announced by the Audio Publishers Association (APA), and popular audiobook narrator Katherine Kellgren (pictured) is a finalist twice in the Solo Narration-Female category - competing there with narrators Anne Hathaway, Nicola Barber and Cassandra Campbell.

Kellgren also leads as the most-named finalist among all award categories.

In the Solo Narration-Male field, finalists are Dustin Hoffman, Colin Firth, Edoardo Ballerini, Simon Vance and Michael Maloney.

Scores of additional narrators have been declared finalists by the APA in the 28 award categories of this coveted competition - the only awards program in the United States devoted entirely to honoring spoken word entertainment. (All finalists are noted below.)

Winners will be announced at the Audies Gala on May 30 at the New-York Historical Society in New York.

"It is always an exciting revelation to see which titles have been nominated, especially as the number of titles produced in audio each year is growing so rapidly,” says Michele Cobb, president of the APA.

"This year’s finalists do not disappoint," she adds. "With an outstanding host, an amazing list of potential winners and a gorgeous venue, we look forward to once again celebrating excellence in audio publishing.”

DANIEL HANDLER EMCEE

Writer Daniel Handler, longtime friend and supporter of the audiobook industry will emcee the awards gala.

At last year’s 12th Annual Audiobook and Author Tea held during Book Expo America, Handler kept the audience laughing for the bulk of the event as he described his ill-fated decision to replace Tim Curry as the narrator of his popular Lemony Snicket series.

"It was a terrible idea,” he said, describing in vivid detail his "stuttering, stammering, lip-smacking” attempt at audio narration. Handler is more optimistic of his emceeing gig at this year’s Audie Award® gala.

"At long last I get to combine my two great loves - audiobooks and hogging the spotlight.”

In addition to his mega bestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events series written under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, Handler is the author of literary novels The Basic Eight, Watch Your Mouth, and Adverbs.
